Help me be a hairless hero for kids' cancer

This October, I’ll be taking part in Redkite’s waxing challenge, You Little Ripper. I’ll be waxing part of my body to make a small (hairy) sacrifice for families facing childhood cancer.

Please support me in whatever way you can - by donating, you’ll be helping Redkite give families the strength they need to face childhood cancer. By sharing you will spread the reach of awareness these little heroes need and the support that is desperately needed.

When watching my son go through treatment, I can't imagine the pain and discomfort he goes through. I sit by his side and hold his hand and caress his head, giving him all the love and support I can. When Ollie had 1 of the uncontrollable side effects of chemo; nerve pain, it was the hardest 72 hours I've ever experienced as a father. His little baby screams of terror that will never leave my soul, even as I type it now I am re-living those moments of pain waiting in emergency, hoping the pain subsides. This WAX Challenge will signify for me the small amount and momentary pain that my son and all children who go through chemo treatment suffer. Oliver is my Reason

Thursday 3rd Aug

2022 was a year of ups and downs, moved from the Central Coast to the Northern Rivers, Lismore area February 12th. New career and new location for the Jepson family. 2 weeks into our new life and location, we were hit by the countries worst floods in history; and again 1 month later. Trying to live and work through the devastation, we counted ourselves as the lucky ones who made it through reasonably unscathed. Only to eventually be hit with homelessness 6 months later due to the rental crisis and the aftermath of the floods hitting the entire region. Sending my wife and children back to the Central Coast to have a safe and dry roof over their heads, I continued to work and live away from my family until we could navigate our next move. Only to then be hit with Olivers brain cancer diagnosis. Our next devastating journey begins, from hearing and ear issues in Olivers right ear, to headaches and blurry vision and a lazy turn in his right eye, to 1 CT and MRI later the tumour was discovered. Leaving my job, shared living rental and the Lismore hospital to fly Oliver down to Westmead where we have lived and fought since. It's almost been a year since the dreadful day of diagnosis, a rare and aggressive brain tumour that is eating away my beautiful boy at the base of his skull. There has been many hurdles we have faced since, the main and most scarring for me was 1 side-effect of chemo-therapy, nerve pain. Oliver sat in hospital for 24 hrs in extreme pain in his hips and legs, uncontrollable pain that we just had to wait to subside until the doctors could give him some medication that would keep the nervous system under control. Hearing his terrified screams and desperate attempts at asking for mummy and daddy to help him while he struggle in his hospital bed, telling the nurses to go away and that he didn't want to be here going through this brought me to my breaking point. Even now recounting this part of the journey I am struggling to type through the tears. Along with many other uncomfortable times Oliver has endured during his treatment with Radiation-therapy and daily meds, these are the reasons I am participating in this challenge. To go through some momentary pain of waxing my body to raise money and awareness seems like nothing compared to what Oliver and other children go through. Pain is only temporary but these kids deserve to live a full life., and with the support from the community will we make the journey families have to go through a little easier.
